17.04.2008 Festival of Russian Indian friendship and unity

On March 25-26 in the context of the Year of Russia in India in New Delhi the festival The Roerichs and the Cultural and Spiritual Unity of Russia and India took place. It was connected with the 80th anniversary of the Urusvati Himalayan Research Institute, founded by the Roerichs in Naggar in the Kulu Valley, and 100th anniversary of Devika Rani Roerich, an Indian filmstar, outstanding actress, wife of Svetoslav Roerich (the youngest son of Nicholas Roerich). The festival was organized by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (New Dehli), the International Centre of the Roerichs (Moscow, Russia) and the International Roerich Memorial Trust (Naggar, India). Two Photo exhibitions were presented at the Festival : History of foundation and activity of the Urusvati Himalayan Research Institute and Devika Rani Roerich.

11.04.2008 Open letter to the leaders of the country in defence of the International Centre of the Roerichs

We appeal to you because of the dramatic situation around the International Centre of the Roerichs, situated in the Moscow Mansion of the Lopukhins. The International Centre is threatened to be erected, to be moved from its place. It will ruin the Public Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich, founded by Svetoslav Nikolayevich Roerich, the last member of the outstanding Roerichs' family. This attempt of eviction will break the state obligations.

04.04.2008 Exhibition United by Light

On April 1 a new exhibition of two artists was opened in the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich. The first painter is Gerel Shar-Mandzhi (Elista), the second – Angele Ionelene (Vilnius).

Gerel was brought up in Kalmykia with Buddhist traditions. Gerel unites Buddhist iconography art traditions and European painting, creating images close to people born in the East and to those who knows a little about Buddhist iconography. Gerel’s exhibition is a true occasion for the Oriental culture lovers, connoisseurs of contemporary art and those who seek answers to eternal questions about meaning of life.

Paintings by Angele Ionelene are unique. They are mandalas Her creativity is a sign of a new synthesis, connecting the East and the West, intellect and feelings. It is a present for us to stay in resonant halls among the melodious blue of the mandalas.

02.04.2008 George Roerich’s flat was robbed

On April 1 a flat, in former times belonged to George Roerich, an outstanding orientalist, scientist, the eldest son of the greatest artist and philosopher Nicholas Roerich, was robbed. A press conference for mass media reporters took place in the International Centre of the Roerichs. L.V. Shaposhnikova, the Vice-President of the International Centre of the Roerichs, Director General of the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich, and A.V. Stetsenko, the First Deputy Director, answered reporters' questions. There were representatives from Interfax agency, Izvestiya newspaper, TVC , Vesti, REN TV channels. L.V. Shaposhnikova explained TVC channel: “We rose the question about the George Roerich's heritage, which must take a worthy place in our country. We applied to the President’s Administration, Ministry of Culture, Foundation of Culture, but nobody payed attention, that after Iraida Bogdanova’s death a certain V.Y. Vasilchik, who has no relation to the Roerichs, had possessed the heritage. We know, that during last time he was selling pictures, canvases of great value, relics and archive documents. Today it's become clear that the heritage has been lost for our culture. Our attempts were not supported, nobody helped us”.

28.03.2008 Press conference in the House of Journalist

On March 25 for the first time we celebrated the Cultural workers Day. Meantime nowadays culture itself and its workers are in crisis. One of its display – Moscow art houses condition. A press conference, held on March 25 in the Moscow House of Journalists, was devoted to the raiders’ seizure of buildings and pressing of the capital administration upon capital centres of culture. Participants of the conference were leaders of the House of Culture, Central House of Actors, Central House of Artists, Moscow House of Sculptors, House of Cinema etc.

27.03.2008 Statute of the Prize by Name of H.I. Roerich

On March 24 on the traditional evening, dedicated to the Teacher’s Day, the Governing body of the Foundation by name of Helena Roerich promulgated Statute of the International Prize by Name of H.I.Roerich.

26.03.2008 The Bell of Peace on the Day of the Earth

On March 23 the XI annual action The Bell of Peace on the Day of the Earth took place in the International Centre of the Roerichs. The organizers were: the Russian Cosmonautics Federation, the International Centre of the Roerichs, the International League for the Protection of Culture, the International humanitarian Foundation“Znaniye” by name of K.V. Frolov. The first Bell of Peace was set in the UNO headquarters in New York in 1954. It was founded out of charitable coins of children from all continents. This Bell is the symbol of global solidarity of people of the Earth. In the Bell there are also medals, orders and other honorable decorations from many countries. The Bell is the symbol of hope and aspirations to make a universal peace real. The inscription on the Bell says: “Long live universal peace all over the world”.

19.03.2008 145th anniversary of V.I. Vernadsky

On March 12 a solemn evening, dedicated to the 145th anniversary of V.I. Vernadsky, took place in the International Centre of the Roerichs. V.I. Vernadsky is an outstanding scientist-encyclopedias, unique philosopher, naturalist, founder of the teaching of noosphere, biosphere, geochemistry, radiology etc, the greatest mineralogist and crystallography scientist of the 20th century, public figure, founder of a lot of scientific schools. He was called Lomonsov of the 20th century.

08.03.2008 Exhibition of Aleksey Leonov Call of the Heart

On March 4 an exhibition of A. Leonov Call of the Heart was opened in the International Centre of the Roerichs . A young 26 years old sculptor expressed himself as a talented master having his own style. Some of his sculptures, realized images of N.K. Roerich paintings, are in the permanent exposition of the Centre Museum by name of N.K. Roerich.
