Culture - an energetic Heart of Evolution
On April 15 an evening Culture - an energetic Heart of Evolution, dedicated to the Day of culture, took place in the International Centre-Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich. This holiday, which is celebrated in many towns and cities of the world, including Russia, impressed the important event. In 1935 on this day the International treaty for protection of culture (the Roerich Pact) was signed. N.K. Roerich (1874 - 1947), a famous Russian painter and public figure of world importance, offered governments of states to conclude a treaty for protection of cultural monuments, scientists and cultural workers. This pact was signed by many countries. In 1954 it became the basis of the Hague Convention, which was rectified by our country too. However nowadays the problem of protecting culture still remains very keen.

Travelling exhibition from the collection of the ICR in Anzhero-Sudzhensk
From April 9 to May 10 paintings by Nicholas Roerich from the International Centre of the Roerichs collection will be exhibited in the Museum of Regional Studies in Anzhero-Sudzhensk. The exhibition On Trails of Inmost Asia is a joint project of the Museum of Regional Studies, Roerich society of Anzhero-Sudzhensk and the Centre-Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich.

Exhibition-competition of children art works United by the cosmos
On April 7 a ceremonial opening of the All-Russian children exhibition-competition United by the cosmos took place in the Centre-Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich. The exhibition was timed to the Day of Cosmonautics and the 75th anniversary of Yury Gagarin.

Answering to just a usual kind of falsification
Nowadays publications which are far from the historical truth and full of falsification concerning the Roerichs have appeared in the scientific surroundings. For example, a slanderous thesis by V.A. Rosov, where he intentionally misrepresents the image of our outstanding scientist, philosopher, artist Nicholas Roerich. The next opus is the book by A.J. Andreyev Brotherhood of the Himalayas: Theosophic myth and its makers. The position of the International Centre of the Roerichs is reflected in the book review.

Literary evening dedicated to 200th anniversary of N.V. Gogol
On April 2 a literary evening dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Nicolai Vasilyevich Gogol took place in the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich. The audience saw the stage version «...Her revived power» was presented on spiritual prose of N.V. Gogol and his correspondence with Alexandra Osipovna Smirnova-Rosset – a favorite maid of honor of the empresses Alexandra Fyodorovna and Mariya Fyodorovna and not an ordinary woman of her time.

Anniversary of the Roerich’s Banner of Peace was celebrated in the Himalayas
The anniversary of the Roerich’s Banner of Peace and Roerich’s Pact for protection of historical monuments and scientific institutes was celebrated in Naggar in Kullu Valley (India). The estate of the famous Russian family of the Roerichs, where from the beginning of the 90s the International Roerich Memorial Trust works, became the centre of this celebration.

On the Trustworthiness of Certain Provenances of Paintings by Nicholas Roerich
26-28 November, 2008, the State Tretyakov Gallery held the XIV Scientific Conference titled Expert Assessment and Attribution of Works of Fine, Decorative and Applied Arts. The conference was attended by experts, collectors, and representatives of the largest museums of Russia and the neighboring countries. The International Center of the Roerichs participated in a session of poster presentations organized at the conference. The session opened with a report On the Trustworthiness of Provenance in Assessment and Attribution of Works of Fine Art (with Examples of Provenances by Christie’s and Sotheby’s Auction Houses of Nicholas Roerich’s Paintings) delivered by Galina V. Daruze who is heading the Department of the Works of Fine Art, Memorial Belongings and Artifacts Reserve at the non-governmental Museum by mane of Nicholas Roerich. The main provisions of her report generated much interest and met understanding among specialists.

The Best in Heritage
The town of Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful towns of the Mediterranean with the great history and wonderful architecture. Greek, Italian and Slav cultures united there. Dubrovnik remembers Marko Polo, Francis of Assisi and Titian. An Annual Conference The Best in Heritage completed its work in this ancient town in September. The conference was held with the assistance of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the pan-European Federation for Cultural Heritage Europe Nostra, European committee of the ICOM, National committee of the ICOM of Croatia, administration of Dubrovnik, with the financial support of UNESCO, National committee of the ICOM of Croatia and others.
