Moscow International Museum Forum «City where we live is the Path to the Social Harmony».
Since October 15 to November 15 of 2010 the International Centre-Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich takes part in the Moscow International Museum Forum «City where we live is the Path to the Social Harmony».
The Forum organisers are: the Museum association «The Museums of Moscow» and the Department of Culture of Moscow. Moscow museums and foreign museums, departments of the Moscow government, Moscow Patriarchate and another public organisations working in the field of culture participate in the Forum.
In the framework of the main exhibition project of the Forum «City where we live is the Path to the Social Harmony» the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich represents the anniversary exposition «75 years of the Roerich Pact».
The exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments which was signed by authorised representatives of 21 North and South American states in 1935 in Washington. The Treaty was called after its creator — the outstanding artist, philosopher, scientist and traveller Nicholas Roerich.
The words by N. Roerich «Destroyed by human ignorance and reconstructed by human hope» are the leitmotif of the exhibition «75 Years of the Roerich Pact».
The unique archive documents, photo materials on the history of the Roerich Pact, reproductions of paintings by Nicholas Roerich and Svetoslav Roerich, photos of cultural monuments destroyed during wars and regional conflicts.
The scientific conference «Study and museum interpretation of the search processes of the social harmony in urban community» became the main event of the Forum.
Natalia Cherkashina, the Deputy Director General of the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich, stressed in her report «The Protection of Cultural Values is the Basis for Harmonious Development of Society»: «Topicality of the protection of culture is still vital in the world. The Roerich Pact is becoming more and more significant nowadays. The problem of irrevocable loss of the cultural values in the XXI century is of a catastrophic character and demands immediate decision».
