Celebration of George Roerich 110th anniversary in the Roerichs Estate in Kullu

On August 16 the jubelee of Dr. George Roerich (1902-1960), great orientalist, linguist, historian, ethnographer, archeologist, and traveller, was celebrated in the Roerich Estate in Naggar.

The event was open with traditional Indian pudja ceremony performed by Mr Kamlesh Sharma, Director of the Art College named after Helena Roerich, IRMT.

The International Centre of the Roerichs employees who arrived in Naggar by invitation of Himachal Pradesh government took part in the ceremony. In cooperation with their Indian colleagues the ICR experts had been working on verification of objects, collections and archive pertaining to the Roerich heritage in the IRMT.

In the framework of the event a round table was organised dedicated to Dr. George Roerich heroic destiny and his scientific investigations. Representatives of different religions, scientists from India and Russia , and the ICR specialists participated in the discussion.

Professor Tsering Dorje who also took part in the celebration narrated about his meetings with Dr George Roerich in Lahul and Naggar.

The participants of the event visited an exhibition dedicated to the famous Central-Asian expedition of the Roerichs and Urusvati Institute activity. They also made aquaintance with the exposition devoted to Dr. George Roerich. Both exhibitions were organised in the former biochemical laboratory of the Institute.

At the end of the event the ICR representatives delivered presents and souveniers to Indian and Tibetan guests.
