Exhibition “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” in Rostov-on-Don




The exhibition dedicated to the Roerich Pact opened on April 24, 2014 in the Don State Public Library in the capital of the Southern Federal District of the Russian Federation Rostov-on-Don.

The exhibition was organized by the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR)with the cooperation of the Don State Public Library, the Don Cultural-Educational Centre (Rostov-on-Don), the Azov Roerich Society “Call” (Azov) and a number of cultural figures of Rostov-on-Don.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Mikhail Moon, the Deputy Director General of the Don State Public Library mentioned that the Roerich Pact was particularly relevant to the the city and its library, which lost half of its valuable collection published in various languages of the USSR and its extensive collection of journals in the conflagration during the WWII.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Dmitri Revyakin, the referent of the Exhibition Department of the ICR highlighted the relevance of the Roerich Pact ideas in the world of today and presented the Library with the Banner of Peace. He also mentioned that it was only the rise of the Russian national culture that was able to solve the multiple problems facing the modern Russian society.

The opening ceremony also featured a musical programme organized by the Azov Roerich Society. The event closed with the screening of “The Call of Cosmic Evolution” by Madam Shaposhnikova.

From Rostov-on-Don the exhibition will proceed to the cities of Taganrog and Krasnodar and tour the Caucasus region.
