Gala-evening dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Madam Lyudmila V. Shaposhnikova, First Vice-President of the International Centre of the Roerichs, Director General of the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich

Mr A.A. Avdeev congratulated the Heroine of the day

Representatives of cultural community from many regions of Russia and abroad took part in the Gala-evening dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Madam L.V. Shaposhnikova and the 60th anniversary of her creative activity. That day they came to the International Centre of the Roerichs to express their deep respect and gratitude to the heroine of the evening for her selfless activity in the field of culture.

“Your entire life has been connected with culture, — Alexander A. Avdeev, Minister of Culture of Russia, said in his greeting speech. — The scope of your creative capacities is unusually wide. But the main aim of your life is preservation, exploration and popularization of the priceless artistic and cultural heritage of the Roerichs family [...]. Let me express my amazement at and admiration for your selfless devotion [...]. Interaction with you and this Museum purifies our souls and minds [...]. This is why we are especially grateful to you”.

L.V. Shaposhnikova — the Heroine of the day

Then L.V. Shaposhnikova was congratulated by the following public figures: Mr. G.B. Karasin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia; HE Ajai Malhotra, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India to Russia; Ms. G.I. Malanicheva, Chair of All-Russian Society for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments; Dr. Ivan Ilchev, Rector of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski; Ms Vasilka Kehaeva, First Secretary of the Embassy of Bulgaria to Russia; Ms. L.I. Alyoshina, Member of the Presidium of the Republican Council of Elders of the Khakas people; Academician E.P. Chelyshev, Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences; Ms. Maria Teresa Dutli, Regional Legal Advisor of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross for the Russian Federation, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine; V.S. Povinski, Advisor to Director of the Informational Center of UNO in Moscow and others.

Congratulatory addresses on occasion of Madam Shaposhnikova’s jubilee were sent by prominent state and public figures: E.M. Primakov, M.S. Gorbachev, S.M. Mironov, as well as by representatives of museum community: V.I. Tolstoi, Chair of the Russian Committee of ICOM; I.V. Lebedev, Director General of the State Tretyakov Gallery; A.I. Aksenova, Director of the State Vladimir and Suzdal Historical and Architectural Art Museum and others.

From abroad greetings were sent by Mr Karl Habsburg-Lothringen, President of the Association of the National Committees of the Blue Shield; Dr Friedrich T. Shipper, General Secretary of the Austrian National Committee of the Blue Shield; Mr Alexander Sain-Wittgenstein, Vice-President of Europa Nostra; Ms Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, General Secretary of Europa Nostra; Ms Eleonora V. Mitrofanova, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, Chairperson of the Executive Board of UNESCO; HE Mr Alexander M. Kadakin, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia to India and others.

Professor Ivan Ilchev, Rector of Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski handled Madam L. Shaposhnikova a Diploma awarding her with the title of honorary Doctor of the Sofia University. Professor A.V. Postnikov announced that Madam L.V. Shaposhnikova was elected a Honorary Doctor of National Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

Video greeting by the 28th crew of the International Cosmic Station: Andrey Borisenko (commander), Alexander Samokutyaev (flight engineer) and Sergei Volkov (flight engineer) was shown during the Gala-evening. That greeting was recorded on the eve of Madam Shaposhnikova's birthday.

Artists-cosmists addressed to Madam Shaposhnikova with their greetings. For many years Director General of the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich has been supporting their creativity. Lola Lonely passed on to the Museum her triptych “Rock Paintings of Altai”. Young flutist E. Kornishina represented a musical congratulation on behalf of V. Spivakov Foundation.

Madam Shaposhnikova expressed her hearty thanks to all the participants for their kind words, beautiful flowers, poems, musical issues, and for the common atmosphere of unity. She invited everybody to visit the exhibition “Thinking about the Future...”. The exhibition sections' names – “Beginning of the Way”, “Attraction of India”, “Along the Master's Rout”, “Great Decisions”, “Under the Banner of Peace” and “For the sake of Culture” – give the idea on the main stages of Madam Shaposhnikova's creative work. The exposition also included books and photos by Madam Shaposhnikova.

Dr. A.V. Postnikov congratulated the Heroine of the day
