Exhibition of watercolours «Architectural Monuments of India»

Mrs N. Cherkashina, Deputy Director General of the Museum

On August 12, 2011 an opening of the exhibition «Architectural Monuments of India» by the Indian artist Shri Kashinath Das took place in the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich.

In her greeting speech Mrs N. Cherkashina, Deputy Director General of the Museum, emphasized that Nicholas and Helena Roerichs contributed a lot in the strengthening of the long-term friendship between Russia and India. In 1942 future Prime ministers of India Javaharlal Nehru and his daughter Indira Gandhi stayed at the Roerichs' mansion in Kulllu. In those days J. Nehru had long conversations with Helena Roerich. They were like-minded persons and both of them were concerned about the fate of the postwar world. J.Nehru was impressed by Helena Roerich's erudition. They talked about culture, ethics, Living Ethics and about the future of the two great nations.

An opening of the exhibition «Architectural Monuments of India»

Mr Ajay Malhotra, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India in Russia, delivered his speech at the opening ceremony. He said that Shri Kashinath Das is a well-known Indian artist. His personal exhibitions were organised in many countries of the world and this exhibition in the museum by name of Nicholas Roerich is a sort of invitation to visit India, the country of ancient civilization and wonderful architecture.

Ms M. Titova, senior researcher of the Museum told in details about peculiarities of Indian architecture.

Mr A. Grechanovski, Director of «Intereko» company, one of co-organizers of the exhibition gave his personal recollections of his visits to India. He also told how Indian people honor the Roerichs.

Mr Ajay Malhotra, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of India in Russia, and Mrs N. Cherkashina, Deputy Director General of the Museum, cut the red ribbon by applause of visitors.

After the ceremony Mrs Cherkashina shown the Ambassador around the main exposition of the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich. Mr Malhotra was deeply impressed by the exposition and said that he looked forward to the cooperation between the Indian Embassy and the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich.

The exhibition will continue till August 24, 2011 in the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich of the International Centre of the Roerichs at: Mal. Znamesky, 3/5
