Across the Space and Time

«Across the Space and Time» is the name of the exhibition that was opened in the end of January, 2012 at the St. Clement Library of the Ohrid University in Sofia. The exhibition, consisting of the books donated to the library by the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow, was organised by the St. Clement Library and the Bulgarian National Roerich Society, the Bulgarian Branch of the ICR. It will last through mid-March 2012.

Mrs Bilyana Yavrukova, Deputy director of the Library, thanked the International Centre of the Roerichs for the gift and expressed her confidence that the books donated by the ICR will not only enrich the library collection but also contribute to the deeper study of the Roerichs' heritage.

Professor Alexander Fedotov, Director of the Center for Eastern Languages and Cultures at the Sofia University, narrated about the Roerichs family, emphasizing that the collection of books from the ICR is a valuable acquisition for the University Library.

Ms Marga Koutsarova, Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Roerich Society, the Bulgarian Branch of the ICR, noted that the members of the Roerich family were united by the Living Ethics ideas. She also told about the ICR which was founded by Svyatoslav Roerich to continue the Roerichs' work. Now the ICR is headed by Ms L. Shaposhnikova, the outstanding modern researcher of the Roerichs' heritage, scientist and philosopher. In October 2011 she was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the Sofia University, and in December the 4th grade Order of Merit.

Visitors of the exhibition can see the ICR publications – “The Large Roerich Library” and “The Small Roerich Library” series, as well as the Living Ethics books. The exhibition also features such remarkable books as “Tibetan Art”, “History of Middle Asia”, “Buddhism and Cultural Unity of Asia” by George Roerich, a remarkable specialist in Oriental Studies, and books by Svyatoslav Roerich, the outstanding thinker, artist, and public activist.
