The International Centre of the Roerichs takes part in the Google Art Project
April 3, 2012 saw the start of the second phase of the Google art-project that represents the best museums of the world on the website googleartproject.com. The event was celebrated in various countries.
It was a year ago that the Google company, commonly recognized as the leader on the multimedia technologies market, launched a pilot version of the portal googleartproject.com aimed to provide maximum availability of art-pieces for the Internet users. Originally the project involved 17 museums from 9 countries, including the Metropolitan Museum in New York (US), the London National Gallery (GB), the Uffizi Gallery in Florence (Italy), the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg (Russia), the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow (Russia), and several others.
This year 150 museums from 40 countries joined the project, representing in total over 30,000 masterpieces. Among the new partners of the project there are two Russian museums, the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and the Nicholas Roerich Museum of the International Centre of the Roerichs.
The Project brought together different countries and continents, representing the art of different nations such as Brazilian graffiti, Islamic decorative art, ancient African rock-painting etc.
Amit Sud, head of the project, emphasized the tolerant nature of this initiative which is aimed at bringing together representatives of different cultures and nations.
Visitors of the project website can start their virtual tour at the USA president study in the White House, and continue it by exploring a collection of the old masks from New Zealand. Afterwards one can walk around the Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar and visit the Hong Kong Heritage Museum or get acquainted with the Degas masterpieces at the d'Orsay Museum in Paris, and finish the tour in Moscow in front of the Nicholas Roerich portrait at the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich.
The Nicholas Roerich Museum is represented by four paintings: ''Mongol Tsam (Religious ceremony)'', 1927-1928; ''Greatest and Holiest of Tangla'', 1929; ''Easter Night'', 1934; and the portrait of Nicholas Roerich in Tibetan robe painted by S. Roerich in 1933.
