Exhibition "The Roerich Pact. History and modernity" in Santiago

The opening of the exhibition "The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of signing of the first international Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments took place on November 21 in Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Santiago. The exhibition is a part of the international exhibition project implemented by the International Centre of the Roerichs (Moscow) under the auspices of UNESCO and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition was opened by Mr. M.I. Orlovetz, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Chile. Mr. A.P. Losyukov, President of the International Roerichs' Heritage Preservation Committee addressed the exhibition organizers and guests with a welcome speech. On behalf of the International Centre of the Roerichs Ms. E.V. Kolupaeva, the director of Russian Centre of Science and Culture, presented the distinctive flag of the Roerich Pact "Banner of Piece" to Mr. Sebastian Gonzales, head of the non-governmental organization "Artesanos".

The exposition "The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity" includes comprehensive information on the origin of this magnificent international treaty, the reproductions of paintings by the Master, unique photos, rich documentary material illustrating the realization of initiative by Nicholas Roerich, the great Russian humanist. Signing of the Roerich Pact became the remarkable and significant event of the XX century in the field of international protection of the cultural heritage of mankind.
