Exhibition “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” in Angarsk




City of Angarsk became the first city in Eastern Siberia to accept the international exhibition project “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity”, dedicated to the first treaty on international legal protection of cultural heritage of humanity. This unique outstanding event opened on April 2, 2014 in the museum and library of Roerich Centre “Muzeon” of the city non-governmental organization “Angarsk Roerich Society”.

The honoured cultural worker of the Russian Federation Mrs. Tatyana V. Bachina greeted the audience with a welcome speech on behalf of the Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Siberian Federal District Mr. Viktor A. Tolokonsky.

The executive secretary of the International Centre of the Roerichs Mr. Pavel M. Zhuravikhin officially donated the distinctive flag of the Roerich Pact, a symbol of protection and preservation of cultural heritage of mankind around the world – the Banner of Peace to the Ministry of culture and archives of the Irkutsk region. The Minister of culture and archives of Irkutsk region Mr. Vitaly V. Baryshnikov acclaimed the exhibition and his greeting was read out by the Chairperson of the city non-governmental organization “Angarsk Roerich Society” Mrs. Olga A. Ustyugova. Head of the Culture Department of the Angarsk Municipal Education Mrs. Elena V. Kirichenko emphasized the high level of the exhibition project organization. 

Director of Labor Glory Museum of one of the local economic mainstays of the city joint stock company “Angarsk oil and gas company” Mrs. Lidiya A. Shmakova expressed gratitude to all the organizers of the exhibition for the possibility of sharing experience of such a tremendous special event.

The exhibition ceremony was enhanced by the violin ensemble “Inspiration” under the direction of the honoured cultural worker of Russian Federation and scholar of the gubernatorial prize 2012 Mrs. Natalia G. Kiseleva.

The exhibition in Angarsk will run until April, 25. During this period different events are going to take place under the auspices of the programme including the screening of films, serious of lectures “Roerich. Pages of biography”, classical music concerts, the poetry session, concert of Indian dance studio, awarding of laureates of the first “Roerich readings” for students (1-11 classes) etc.

April, 3 – the executive secretary of the International Centre of the Roerichs Mr. Pavel Zhuravikhin was invited to the author programme “The relevant interview” by the Director General of TV channel “AKTIS”. It was devoted to the opening of the exhibition “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” in Angarsk.

The exhibition will continue display in Priangarye in Ust-Ulimsk, Bratsk, Irkutsk, further – in the Republic of Buryatia and Zabaikalsky Krai.
