International exhibition project “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” in Vienna, Austria





Vienna is often interpreted as the cultural capital of Europe. It is a unique and beautiful city at the very heart of Europe which always attracted talented people from the whole world. It is not a coincidence that the old center of the city was named a UNESCO Cultural heritage site in 2001.

The capital of Austria taught by the bitter World wars experience is widely known for its global diplomatic congresses.

The project “Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” continues its path at the UN office in Vienna after project presentations at the UN headquarters in New York and UN office in Geneva. This exhibition of the International Centre of the Roerichs has been established due to the active support of the Russian compatriots living in Vienna who do not forget their national backgrounds and ties with Russian culture. The project organization was implemented by the Austrian Roerich Society – the National Committee of the Roerich Pact jointly with the Russian UN Club with support of Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the international organizations in Vienna V.I. Voronkov.

At the solemn opening of the exhibition in the Rotunda, main lobby of the UN office in Vienna, statements were made by: М. Horoshev – President of the Russian Club of the UN International Centre in Vienna; V.I. Voronkov – Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the international organizations in Vienna; F. Shipper – Secretary General of the Austrian National Committee of the Blue Shield. On behalf of the International Centre of the Roerichs guests of the exhibition were greeted by Ms. Leylya Strobl – President of the Austrian Roerich Society - the National Committee of the Roerich Pact. Also guests from Ministry of Defense of Austria, leadership of the International Atomic Energy (IAEA) and Russian Centre of science and culture in Vienna attended the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The Ambassador Mr. V.I. Voronkov in his welcome speech mentioned that universal sign of Banner of Peace is understood by many people of the planet as it has a profound humane sense common to all mankind.

The MSU choir headed by its artistic director Mirza-aga Askerov performed works by Bortnyansky and Sviridov, Russian folk songs.

The exhibition is open from 5 to 12 November, 2015.
