We have seen once again that today in Russia there is no justice capable of protecting the legitimate interests of a non-governmental organization. We have seen how officials, in our case, the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, seek to take away all property belonging to a non-governmental organization (we mean the Roerichs’ Heritage) and the cultural heritage site (the Lopoukhins’ Estate, restored by the ICR without government financial support).

115th Anniversary of George Roerich Marked in the Himalayan Roerich Estate
On August 16, 2017, the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT), Naggar, conducted a festive programme on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of George Roerich, the renowned orientalist, Buddhist scholar, linguist and explorer of Central Asia, and the elder son of Nicholas and Helena Roerich. As per tradition, representatives of the Buddhist world were the chief guests of the programme.

An exhibition on the life and creative work of the great Russian artist, scholar and thinker Nicholas Roerich opened on July 29, 2017 in Shimla, the capital of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, once the summer capital of British India.

Saturday, April 29, 2017, was noteworthy in the Himalayan Roerich Estate for the opening of the festival “India – Russia – the Roerichs” dedicated to two memorable dates: the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Indian diplomatic relations and the 25th anniversary of the International Roerich Memorial Trust.

Statement of the International Centre of the Roerichs concerning the armed seizure of the Lopoukhins estate
Around 9 p.m. on 28 April 2017 [Friday] the Director General of the State Museum of Oriental Art (SMOA), Alexander Sedov and his colleagues, accompanied by a specialized unit with no insignia that would allow their identification, made an attempt to seize the non-governmental Museum named after Nicholas Roerich of the International Centre of the Roerichs and other buildings of the Lopoukhins estate, in which the ICR has been lawfully based since the beginning of the 1990’s, as well as to seize the preserved in the Museum Roerichs heritage.

On 28 April 2017 at about 21.30 several dozens of representatives of an unknown power structure with no identification signs, as well as the director of the State Museum of Oriental Art (SMOA), Alexander Sedov, with a lawyer, broke onto the territory of the non-governmental Museum named after Nicholas Roerich of the International Center of the Roerichs, Moscow, Russian Federation, without warning. All the Museum visitors and the management of the International Center of the Roerichs ( ICR) were given the ultimatum to leave the building.
