The First International Scientific and Public Conference 'The Kailas phenomenon and its role in the evolution of man'

The First International Scientific and Public Conference "The Kailas phenomenon and its role in the evolution of man" took place at the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR, Moscow) on 12-13 April 2014. It was the first conference in the world scientific practice devoted to the study of Kailas. The conference was organized by the "Research Group of the Kailas phenomenon" (Russia) and the ICR.

The objectives of the conference:
– systematization and introduction into scientific circulation the accumulated data on the Kailas phenomenon;
– promotion of further research and dissemination of knowledge about the Kailas phenomenon and its role in human evolution.

The conference was attended by 420 people, including scientists, teachers, artists, travellers from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, India and China.

The conference opened with the speeches by:
President of the International Roerich Centre and the International Committee for the Conservation of the Roerich heritage, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Alexander Losyukov;
Head of the Research Group of the Kailas phenomenon Sergey Balalaev.

16 reports were made at the conference covering cultural, historical, mythological, semantic, symbolic, geographic and other problems related to Kailas and its surrounding regions.

Among them, there were reports by:

S.Yu. Balalaev, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences (Voronezh);

N.R. Lidova, candidate of philology, senior research fellow of the Institute of World Literature named after M. Gorky of RAS (Moscow);

M.N. Chiryatev, vice-president of the International League for Protection of Culture (St. Petersburg);

D.S. Yusov, director of the Development Fund of MGIMO (Moscow);

Yu.A. Zakharov, MD, professor (Moscow);

Arta Lama Rinpoche, Master of Dzogchen, tradition Shang Shung Nen Gyud (India).

At the end, the round table "Exchange of views on the results of the conference" included, among others, the speeches by:

Professor V.V. Frolov, PhD, Deputy General Director of the Nicholas Roerich Museum on scientific work, head of the United Scientific Centre for cosmic thinking problems (USC CTP) at the ICR;

V.G. Sokolov, PhD, senior fellow of the USC CTP.
