The International Centre of the Roerichs takes part in the International Festival «INTERMUSEUM-2012»

From 1 to 5 June 2012 the International Festival «INTERMUSEUM-2012» was held in the Central House of Artists (TsDKh) in Moscow. More than 200 museums from Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States represented their expositions in the TsDKh pavilions. The main topic of the Festival was - «Museums and tourism: Integration of museums into tourism industry».

Gala opening of the Festival gathered together many VIP guests who discussed issues related to a necessity to create close cooperation between museums and tourism business representatives.

Mr Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of Russia, said - «Combination of culture and tourism is the most natural one. Each museum should become an attractive center for Russian tourists and foreign citizens. Each cultural object should be incorporated into the system of tourism activity».

The Festival started with a pleasant surprise for the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich. Mr Hans-Martin Hinz, President of ICOM, attended the International Centre of the Roerichs exposition before the opening ceremony and listened with great interest the information on the ICR activity. He highly appreciated the ICR work, and noted that our public museum is a good example of Maecenas traditions revival. The ICR representatives presented the ICOM president a catalogue of the exhibition dedicated to the Roerich Pact that was organised in UNESCO head-quarters in Paris in April of this year.

The ICR exhibition attracted attention of visitors of the Festival and numerous colleagues from other museums. Books and albums issued by the ICR Publishing House were objects of special interest. The exposition Guests of Honore received sets of booklets, posters and post-cards with reproductions of paintings by Nicholas Roerich and Svetoslav Roerich. Mr Nikas Safronov, a famous artist, who also attended the ICR exposition, noted that the specific atmosphere of the International Centre of the Roerichs was succesfully recreated in the laconic style of the ICR exposition.

The results of the competition programme were summarized on the last day of the Festival. The main prize in the most prestigious category «The best museum of the Year» was given to the Elabuga State Historical, Architectural, and Artistic Museum.
