Volunteers from the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow Meet the Students of the Helena Roerich Academy of Arts for Children, IRMT, Naggar

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, the volunteers of the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow coming from various cities of Russia and Belarus, met the teachers and students of the Helena Roerich Academy of Arts for Children in the International Roerich Memorial Trust. It was the fourth such interaction within the framework of the International Children and Youth Festival “Russia-India: From Heart to Heart” that was launched in Naggar in the spring of 2017.
The programme opened with the presentation by the Russian poetess Olga Slepova of her poetry collection for children The Light of Joy translated into Hindi by Gautam Kashyap. It was followed by a video address to Indian children by the Russian children Nadia and Pasha Ovcharov, the residents of Zarechny (Russia) who illustrated the collection. They expressed hope that Indian children would like the book and proposed that they illustrate the poems they liked most with their own drawings. With great pleasure the poetess handed over a signed copy of her book to the Academy library.
With the support of the Kurgan Roerich society, the leaders of the volunteer group Tamara Merges and Vassily Tkachev prepared a slide show on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Roerichs’ settling in Kullu. The slide show told the children about the Roerichs, the Roerich Pact and the Banner of Peace. They presented the Academy teachers with the poster on the Sign of Tri-unity in English and Russian. They also conducted a master class for the Academy students during which the latter painted the symbols of the Banner of Peace on small wooden workpieces, signed them and sent them as gifts to Russian children.
Along with their students, the Academy teachers joined the second master class: with great pleasure all of them wove the traditional Russian lucky charm – the symbol of sun – which they carried home as a souvenir of the meeting.
The programme closed with a gay Russian round dance, songs, and sweet treats.
