02.10.2014 Unknown Tibet. The Great Lakes and Kailas Mountain


At the beginning of September 2014, a unique expedition of Russian travelers to the area of Great Lakes of Tibet and to Kailas, the most sacred mountain in Asia was completed. The expedition was led by one of the famous explorers of Tiber Mr. Sergey Balalaev. The first part of the route coincided with the route of Tibetan part of the Central Asian Expedition (CAE) conducted by the Roerichs 86 years ago. The expedition was timed to 140th anniversary of Nicholas Roerich. The purpose of the expedition was to follow the route of CAE, to identify the places on the route, and to continue the study of this unique region of our planet, which still remains a blank spot to European explorers due to geographical and, especially, political limitations. This area is one of the most inaccessible territories on the globe.

The Publication Department of the International Centre of the Roerichs is preparing for publication the two-volume set “Awaken the Beautiful in Yourself” (In Russian) dedicated to the 110th anniversary of Svetoslav Roerich.


23.09.2014 International Centre of the Roerichs has proposed a peacemaking initiative


Under the patronage of UNESCO and the Commission of the Russian Federation on UNESCO affairs and within the framework of the International Day of Peace celebrations the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich organized a round table. Its participants adopted a resolution, which contains the address to the renowned international organizations (UN and UNESCO), heads of states and governments and international intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations to do everything within their power in order to create understanding in the society of the role of Culture as the true foundation of Peace.


22.09.2014 International Day of Peace Celebrated in the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich under UNESCO Patronage


The exhibition “Peace through Culture” has opened in the Museum named after Nicholas Roerich within the framework of the celebration of the International Day of Peace. Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova has supported the ICR initiative to organize the exhibition “Peace through Culture” and the round table “Nicholas Roerich’s Appeal “Peace through Culture” as a Way to Abolish Wars and Establish Sustainable Peace,” which takes place in Moscow on September 21-22. “Noting that your initiative is all the more remarkable by its direct contribution to UNESCO’s mandate to build peace in the minds of men and women, I am pleased to welcome worldwide projects, such as yours, which reinforce the promotion of a culture of peace and its attainment through education and culture,” reads the address of the head of the renowned international organization to the International Centre of the Roerichs.


15.09.2014 Exhibition “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” in Chandigarh


The large-scale exhibition project “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” organized by the International Centre of the Roerichs and the International Roerichs’ Heritage Preservation Committee goes on travelling around India. In early July the project was launched in Shimla – the capital of the Himachal Pradesh state; then the exhibition dedicated to the Roerich Pact opened at the Himalaya Roerichs’ estate in Naggar; on 9 September it was received in the Indian city of Chandigarh, the capital of the two states – Punjab and Haryana. The organizer of the exhibit in Chandigarh was, as in Shimla, the Lalit Kala Akademi (Academy of Fine Arts), its Punjab center.


27.08.2014 Historical Buildings of the Lopukhins’ Estate Transferred to ICR for Free Use


On August 21, 2014 the Mayor of Moscow S.S. Sobyanin signed the order of the Moscow municipal government № 452-RP “On the Transfer of the Non-Residential Buildings 4 and 7 Located on 3/5, Maly Znamensky Lane, Moscow to the International Non-Governmental Organization “International Centre of the Roerichs” for Free Use.”

On September 21-22, 2014 the non-governmental Museum Named after Nicholas Roerich (Moscow) of the International Centre of the Roerichs will celebrate the International Day of Peace, adopted by the UN General Assembly.

22.08.2014 George Roerich’s birthday in the International Roerich Memorial Trust


George Roerich’s birthday in the International Roerich Memorial Trust (Naggar, Kullu, India) was celebrated with the inauguration of a photo exhibition “India – along the paths of ancient cultures” by a Ukrainian photographer and researcher Mr. Vitaly Novikov. The photos displayed at the exhibition are the result of the author’s trips along the route of the Central Asian Himalayan expedition of the Roerichs which he undertook with the representatives of the Dnepropetrovsk Association of the Roerichs in 2009-2012.

July 12, 2014, a new exposition “The Roerich Pact. History and Modernity” was inaugurated in the Roerichs’ Memorial Estate in the Kullu valley (India). It was a result of cooperation between the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR) and the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT).

Roerich Pact: Past and Modernity
On July 12 the exhibition "Roerich Pact: Past and Modernity" was opened at the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Maastricht. Historical documents, memorable photos and reproductions of works by the great Russian artist Nicholas Roerich will introduce the history of the birth of the famous "Roerich Pact" - an international treaty "On the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments" which started systematic protection of cultural objects, - to residents and visitors of the oldest city in the south of the Netherlands.
