Exhibition dedicated to the creative activity of Helena Roerich in Sophia
Helena Roerich was the outstanding Russian philosopher, writer, and public promoter. She was deeply interested in philosophic teachings of the ancient East as well as in works of Russian philosophers of the Silver Age. In collaboration with her Spiritual Teachers she created a new scientific and philosophic system — the Living Ethics — a modern concept of Cosmic Evolution of the Mankind. She was the Founder and Honorary President of the Institute of Himalayan Studies «Urusvati» in India. Being the spouse and inspirer of the great Russian artist, philosopher and scientist Nicholas Roerich, she was his co-author in creation of the Roerich Pact.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Boryana Christova, Director of Cyril and Methodius National Library, PhD, Ms. Marga Koutsarova, President of the Bulgarian National Roerich Society, Prof. Alexandr Fedotov, Director of the Center for Eastern Languages and Cultures of Sofia University «St. Kliment Ohridski», PhD, Mr. Ognyan Punev, State Agency «Archives».
The exhibition was organized by Cyril and Methodius National Library, the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR), Bulgarian National Roerich Society, the Center for Eastern Languages and Cultures of Sofia University «St. Kliment Ohridski», and the State Agency «Archives» with the assistance of the Embassy of the Indian Republic in Bulgaria.
The exhibition presents modern editions of the Living Ethics books, among them - the first edition of «Heart» in Russian, issued in Paris in 1932, translations in Bulgarian of «Call» and «Illumination», issued in 1937, complete collection of H. Roerich letters in 9 volumes edited by the ICR and other books by H. Roerich. The exhibition also presents books about H. Roerich and N. Roerich written by L. Shaposhnikova, First vice-president of the ICR and Director General of the Museum by name of Nicholas Roerich, one of the most outstanding modern researchers of the Roerichs creativity. Visitors could also see books, articles, photos, documents and other materials on Helena Roerich's creative heritage. Most of the materials were kindly provided by the International Centre of the Roerichs, Moscow.
The exhibition also includes books by H. Roerich and new edition of proceedings issued by the Institute of Himalayan Studies «Urusvati» and provided for the exhibition by the International Roerich Memorial Trust (India).
